Quick facts

Medford at a glance

Medford is an incorporated city and the seat of Jackson County, and the largest city in Southern Oregon, with ZIP codes 97501 and 97504. It sits on I-5 in the middle of the Rogue Valley, with Rogue Valley International–Medford Airport on its north side, about 10 minutes from downtown. Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, a Level II trauma center, and Providence Medford Medical Center are both here. Grants Pass is about 35 minutes north and Ashland about 20 minutes south.

What it's like

Living in Medford

Medford is where the Rogue Valley comes to get things done: catch a flight, see a specialist, do the big shopping, or see a show downtown. The airport is ten minutes from downtown, with nonstop flights to Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Denver and more.

Downtown has more going on than most people expect. The Craterian Theater books touring shows, Common Block Brewing's patio fills on summer evenings, and Decant is the valley's special-occasion dinner. On Thursdays the Growers & Crafters Market sets up at Hawthorne Park. For a hike without leaving town, Prescott Park on Roxy Ann Peak looks out over the whole valley, and the Bear Creek Greenway runs through the middle of the city.

Homes cover the widest range in the valley: older bungalows near downtown, established west-side neighborhoods, newer homes climbing into the east hills, and acreage on the edges.

Before you buy here

The homework

In the older central neighborhoods, inspect the wiring, plumbing and sewer line. Near Bear Creek, check the flood zone. In the east hills, get a homeowners insurance quote before you make an offer. On the edges of town, confirm whether the home is on city water and sewer or a well and septic.
